Readings

UPCOMING:
January 13, 2012: Harmon's Cooks & Books: The evening includes a simple French meal and a discussion about An Extravagant Hunger and the life of M.F.K. Fisher. The $50 registration price includes a copy of the book, cooking class, and food. I can't imagine there's anything much better to do on a chilly Utah evening than indulge in good food and conversation.

What you missed:
March 9th: San Francisco Public Library -- My first event as an author! The crowd was interested and smart and I only lost my place once. After, we celebrated at Jardinere.
March 19th: The King's English, Salt Lake City, Utah. Ahhh, the hometown crowd! The King's English sold 100 books to a group that included neighbors, friends, my sixth grade teacher, and the barber who cuts my Dad's hair. Photos are up on my facebook page.
March 20th: The 18 Reasons Book Club. I shared behind-the-scenes secrets of biography writing. Don't you wish you knew?
March 23rd: The Booksmith, San Francisco. Not only did I see the back room of a bookstore (so cool!) I read to a great crowd of friends and Fisher fans.
March 24th: Omnivore Books on Food, San Francisco. Not even the howling rains could keep away a stalwart group of M.F.K. Fisher fans who gathered for cookies, tipples of Irish whiskey, and great conversation.
March 30th : The James Beard House, "Beard on Books" NYC, lunchtime. There was coffee, tea, tarts, and bon mots in this beautiful house that serves as a stunning homage to both James Beard and gastronomic arts.
March 31st: WORD Bookstore, Brooklyn: 7:30PM bring something to share for a M.F.K. Fisher inspired potluck and conversation. The food was more lowbrow than high -- pizza, cupcakes, and the best doughnut holes I've ever had -- but we ate together and had a great time.
April 12th: 18 Reasons, San Francisco, time TBA. We'll be having a "Dinner Conversation about Pleasure" {saucy, huh?!} This was one of the most fascinating evenings -- two dozen strangers come together for one night to frankly discuss the intimacy and pleasures of eating. M.F.K. Fisher would have been proud, I think.
April 13th: M.F.K. Fisher dinner at Woodward's Garden. SOLD OUT! This was one of the most magical evenings of my life -- Woodward's Garden is gorgeous, the food, people and conversation was divine. It was a true highlight of my book tour!
April 14th: Mrs. Dalloway's Bookstore, Berkeley. At this event I was almost stumped by a fan's question about M.F.K. Fisher's later life in Glen Ellen. Then Jack Shoemaker, of Counterpoint Press fame, swooped in to save the day!
April 21: Copperfield's Books, Napa. It was a small crowd but we had one of the most profound discussions about food, pleasure, and culture that I've had in awhile. Thanks, Copperfield's!
April 27th: Linfield College, McMinnville, Oregon. I read in front of a roaring fire and was given a glowing introduction by my former professor, Lex Runciman. An amazing night!
April 28th: R. Stuart & Co. Wine Bar, McMinnville Oregon. Oh my, those cheeses were good. Equally great? Drinking a glass of the lovely Rose d'Or sparkling wine while reading to a very enthusiastic crowd.
April 30th: I'm speaking at the Terroir Writing Festival in Yamhill County, Oregon. The title of my talk was "Getting to the Root of the Story." I used my experience getting a book contract and writing about M.F.K. Fisher to illustrate how to find and stick with a story worth telling.
May 2nd: Powell's Books (Cedar Hills Location): 7PM. My most dramatic reading yet. Come see me some time and ask me why.
May 5th: Third Place Books Lake Forest Park Location, Seattle Washington. One of my favorite bloggers came to this reading. Another person brought cookies. It was a delicious evening.
June 3rd: Book Passage Corte Madera. It was a rainy evening in Marin but the room was filled with travel fans and Fisher aficionados.
August 21st: Windrush Farm, Sonoma. Guests enjoyed wood-fired pizza, wine, oysters, and more at this benefit for the Sonoma Book Festival.
September 26th: Books Inc, Berkeley. Part of a "Celebration of M.F.K. Fisher in Berkeley."
October 13th: Litquake reading at Chronicle Books as part of "Serving it Forth: A Feast of Food Writing"
October 15th: Litcrawl reading at Mission Cheese
