Yesterday I ventured to the East Bay to meet with Jack Shoemaker and Laura Mazer at Counterpoint Press. We drank coffee, discussed cold summers in San Francisco, and pored over the photos of M.F.K. Fisher that are slated to go in the book, An Extravagant Hunger: The Passionate Years of M.F.K. Fisher.
Picking the photos was much more challenging than I thought, but after hours of teeth gnashing, I think I have picked two dozen that perfectly illustrate the time period covered in the book. There will be photos of MF and her siblings as a very small girl, MF as a newlywed on her way to France, and lolling in a vineyard in Switzerland. She was such a beauty.
